About

The Motorpoint Arena is Nottingham’s premier multi-use event space. Originally known as the Nottingham Arena, this 10,000 capacity arena located in Nottingham’s National Ice Centre attracts the biggest pop musicians, comedians and sporting events to the heart of the East Midlands. The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham was opened alongside the National Ice Centre by Olympic gold medalist Jayne Torvill in 2000, with its twin Olympic-sized ice rink opening the year after. Choosing one of Nottingham’s most famous historical sporting icons to open the Arena was no coincidence, as the Centre and Arena became the first centre of excellence for ice sports in the UK. The Arena was not as popular as hoped at first, posting an operating loss in its first year, but quickly gained an increased stature after Rod Stewart played a gig there in 2002. Icons such as Elton John, Diana Ross, Kylie Minogue and Westlife all followed soon after. Since its early days the Motorpoint Arena has gained a reputation for being one of the biggest name venues in the East Midlands, hosting not only musicians but other high-profile events. Recent acts to have played at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham include Fatboy Slim, Ozzy Osbourne, and The Prodigy, while WWE Live and Cirque de Soleil have also performed there. The Arena is also home to the professional ice hockey team Nottingham Panthers, members of the Elite Ice Hockey League. Promising a fantastic view and top-level sport, the Motorpoint Arena is worth a visit for any gig or ice hockey lovers in the East Midlands or from further afield.
