The Other Palace in London’s West End is one of London’s newest musical theatres. Formerly known as the St. James Theatre, this Off West End theatre opened in 2012 on the site of the former Westminster Theatre and has been owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Theatres Group since 2016. The Other Palace started life in 2012 as St. James Theatre, following in the footsteps of the former site-holder the Westminster Theatre which was sadly damaged by fire in 2002 and was eventually demolished. After operating for a few years under that guise it re-opened as The Other Palace in February 2017. The Other Palace prides itself on being a relaxed venue where musical theatre can develop without pressure and with the help of audience feedback. The theatre’s 312-seat main theatre shows productions which are complete or works in progress, while the 120-seat studio theatre offers up a diverse programme including cabaret, music, musical theatre and comedy. You can even catch performances in the theatre’s bar which is used for open mic nights and other small performances.
