Northampton Saints

The team of black, green and gold were formed over a century ago in 1880. They began humbly as a group of carefree lads brought together by their sporting vicar. Since then, the Saints and their home ground, Franklin’s Gardens, have far surpassed expectations and have become one of the top-tier rugby union clubs in the UK. The legacy of the club was created during the 50’s thanks to Gordon Sturtridge and Jerry Gordon. The president and secretary at the time, bringing in a Don White who would play just under 450 games for the Saints. They were also responsible for creating a team of White, Jeff Butterfield, Lewis Cannell, David Powell and Bob Taylor, who respectively transformed the reputation of the club. Their most notable success was seemingly their Heineken Cup campaign in 2000, which is referred to as “the greatest day in the Club’s history”. They then have flourished and fallen, but remain strong competition, particularly against Leicester Tigers. Furthermore, thanks to the refurbishment of their home stadium in the early 2000’s, up to 13,500 spectators are able to watch the Saints play.
