A tenner goes a long way up north - and you can easily enjoy a night out in Manchester on just that. It may be windy and grey most of the time, but the city is a goldmine for fun things to do. With such choice and culture combined with plenty of low-priced tickets to events, there’s no need to stay home when you’re living in the epicenter of the action.

Once the leading city of the Industrial Revolution, Manchester is now best known as a powerhouse of creativity. Whether it’s visual arts or performing arts, talent here runs high. Think Ian Brown, The Chemical Brothers, the Gallagher brothers, Jason Manford, who are all prodigies of Manchester’s ever-evolving outpour of creative geniuses.

Having such a strong grassroots scene means there is a plethora of shows to see and things to do, combining quality performances with affordable prices. Comedy is rife at The Frog and Bucket on most nights of the week, while Band on the Wall, The Ruby Lounge and Albert Hall are great manifestations of Manchester’s eclectic gig scene. Lest we forget Manchester’s outstanding and outrageous nightlife. It’s come along way since the mourning period of the Hacienda, and has a wave of fantastic clubs that are fairly inexpensive.
