Chelsea F.C. is one of English football’s most famous clubs. Based in London, Chelsea have won six top-flight titles, eight FA Cups, five League Cups and five European trophies, winning its last Premier League in 2016-17. Nicknamed the Blues, the club plays at Stamford Bridge in Fulham, south-west London. Chelsea F.C. was founded in 1905 by Gus Mears, who acquired the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium and wanted a football team to use it. The club was quickly elected to the Football League and won its first FA Cup in 1915, winning its first top-division title under the management of Nick Drake in 1955. It also saw success in the early 1970s, winning the FA Cup in 1970 and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup the following year. One of six clubs never to have been relegated from the Premier League, Chelsea has had the bulk of its success since the late 1990s, when it gained a reputation for attracting top international players such as Gianfranco Zola and Marcel Desailly. Since the club’s takeover by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2003 the club has become a true Premier League powerhouse, winning five Premier League titles and its first UEFA Champions League in 2012. Promising glamour and elite-quality football at the heart of the UK’s capital city, there are few more exciting sporting experiences in England than watching Chelsea F.C. play at Stamford Bridge.
